Mock-heroic features of Pope’s “The Rape of the Lock” Essay

Mock-epic, otherwise called mock-brave verse is a juxtaposition of minor topic and glory epic style. From the crucial perspective, mock-epic is only the most famous neo-traditional vaudeville utilized as a twofold edged ironical weapon. Batrachomyomachia, an unknown spoof, ascribed to Homer, is most presumably the soonest case of counterfeit epic type. Alexander Pope was the focal figure of Augustan Age, for his best counterfeit gallant verse The Rape of the Lock, composed dependent on a contemporary outrage. It manages the excursion from a unimportant occasion of trimming hair lock of a beauty, to a Trojan war. Pope’s The Rape of the Lock, distributed in 1712(revised form in 1714 with five cantos), resembles an abstract heterogeneous engineering that offers a multi-dimensional progression of marvels. This sonnet sustains the each circle of feelings. The sonnet is simply to draw out a genuine animosity between two Catholic land master families-the Petres and the Fermors got from a ‘dire’ offense by the youthful ruler Petre. He renders retribution by trimming the lock of hair of Arabella Fermor, a woman from Fermor family, as his amourous proposition was emphatically shunted aside by the woman. The whole sonnet is enhanced with super-normal characters like fairies, little persons and their otherworldly exercises. From the earliest starting point, Pope made a mocking air with the lavish, inactive ways of life of master families. Finally however not the least, this false courageous verse, written in measured rhyming, likewise leaves an incredible artistic incentive with its improved talk and prosodic highlights. The highlights of a fake epic would be practically same as the epic yet it ought to be plainly recognized by its difference among subject and style. The highlights of The Rape of the Lock as a false epic, are delineated underneath: The Title: A false chivalrous verse must be embellished with a stupendous title. Assault is a genuine good infringement which implies the seizure of a woman against his assent. For this situation, Pope carried such very word to portray the ownership of Belinda’s hair-lock by Baron, just to deliver a counterfeit heroicâ sensation. Variety of Style and Subject: Mock-epic is a genuine case of ‘high-burlesque’. This implies, the rhyme-plan of a counterfeit epic would be stupendous however the subject would be crazy. In this sonnet, Pope’s topic is immaterial however the style is high similar to an epic adventure. The assault of the lock isn't so wealthy in substance to fit with the epic-musicality. Auxiliary Form: Like an epic, this sonnet is additionally isolated in a few Cantos and scenes that channels The Rape of the Lock as a fake courageous epic. Pope likewise started this sonnet with a summon in first verse, that fits the style suitably. Otherworldly Activities: Being an epic, The Rape of the Lock is given extraordinary exercises. As an epic element, an unequivocal contrast among paradise and hellfire is appeared in this sonnet. Belinda assumes the job of a perfect mineral from the heavenly celibacy of nymphs. In other hand, Baron is the representative of little persons like Milton’s ‘Satan’. Pope’s The Rape of the Lock, a tribute to companion Caryll, is a standout bit of false epic that conveys charms from the start with its inborn scholarly deceives at its fullest, as Pope depicts in his own specific manner â€Å"Charms strike the sight, But merit wins the soul† (in â€Å"The Rape of the Lock†). In their loyalty to this product or service, they fail to give in depth consideration to the business model their organization will follow. Usually the business model is either a one-size-fits-all model, common in the industry or it is a random amalgamation of systems and processes, created at the spur of the moment to further the main goal; sell the product or service.Successful new ventures do not go to market with their first idea; instead, the product/ service has usually gone through several iterations before arriving at the final version. Similarly, organizations are more sustainable if they have considered several business models before deciding on a particular one. THE 9 BUILDING BLOCKSThe Business Model Canvas categorizes the processes and internal activities of a business into 9 separate categories, each representing a building block in the creation of the product or service. These categories represent the four major aspects of a business; customers, offer, infrastructure, as well as financial viability. All 9 categories are listed and explained below.1. Customer SegmentsThe total customer pie is divided into segments based on the manner in which an organization’s products or services address a specific need for the segment. The cust omer segment is an essential part of an organization’s business model and is key to ensuring that the product features are aligned with the segments characteristics and needs.To carry out an effective customer segmentation, a company must first know its customers, both through their current and future needs. Then the organization must list its customers in terms of priority, including a list of potential future customers. Finally, the company should do a thorough assessment of its customers by understanding their strengths and weaknesses and exploring other kinds of customers who may benefit the company more if they are to focus on them.Various  customer segments are as below;Mass Market: An organization opting for this type of customer segment gives itself a wide pool of potential customers because it feels that its product is a relevant need amongst the general population. An example of an organization with a niche customer segment is Louis VittonSegmented: Organizations adopting the segmented approach create further segmentation in their main customer segment based on slight variations in the customer’s demographics and resultantly, their needs.Diversify: An organization with a Diversified Market Segment is flexible in the iterations of its product or service tweaking it to suit the needs of segments with dissimilar needs or traits.Multi-Sided Platform/ Market: This kind of segment serves customers who have a relationship to each other, i.e. blogging sites need a large group of active bloggers to attract advertisers. And they need advertisers to create cash flow. Hence, only by creating a pull with both segments will the blogging site be able to have a successful business model2. Value PropositionsAn organization’s value proposition is the combination of products and services it provides to its customers. Osterwalder stated that these offerings need to be unique and easily differentiated from competition. Value propositions can be divided into two categories:Quantitative: this stresses the price or efficiency of the product or serviceQualitative: this value proposition highlights the experience and results the product and its use, produce.The value proposition provides value through a number of attributes such as  customization, performance, “getting the job done”, brand/ status, design,  newness, price, cost and risk reduction, accessibility, as well as convenience/ usability.When creating your product’s value proposition, the first question an entrepreneur must ask himself is, what problem he is solving through his offered product or service. Then one needs to look into how the product, service or overall experience can be improved so that it provides greater value than the competition. Finally, it is imperative to identify the core value that your business pr ovides. One way to identify this value is for an owner to specify what he/ she wants customers to remember about their interaction with the company.3. ChannelsThe medium through which an organization provides its value proposition to its customer segment is known as a channel. There are various options for channels available to an organization, and the selection is based on the channel that is the quickest, most efficient with the least amount of investment required. A company can opt to choose either one or employ a combination of both.For an entrepreneur, the first step in dealing with channels is to identify the customer channels. Touch points with customers can be limited or diverse depending on company strategy. Then he/ she needs to evaluate the strength of the channel by conducting an SWOT analysis on the channel. Finally, the company can identify and b uild new customer channels.4. Value PropositionsAn organization’s value proposition is the combination of products and services it provides to its customers. Osterwalder stated that these offerings need to be unique and easily differentiated from competition. Value propositions can be divided into two categories:Quantitative: this stresses the price or efficiency of the product or serviceQualitative: this value proposition highlights the experience and results the product and its use, produce.The value proposition provides value through a number of attributes such as  customization, performance, “getting the job done”, brand/ status, design,  newness, price, cost and risk reduction, accessibility, as well as convenience/ usability.When creating your product’s value proposition, the first question an entrepreneur must ask himself is, what problem he is solving through hi s offered product or service. Then one needs to look into how the product, service or overall experience can be improved so that it provides greater value than the competition. Finally, it is imperative to identify the core value that your business provides. There are two basic kinds of channels; Company owned channels such as store fronts or Partner Channels such as Distributors. A company can opt to choose either one or employ a combination of both.For an entrepreneur, the first step in dealing with channels is to identify th e customer channels. Touch points with customers can be limited or diverse depending on company strategy. Then he/ she needs to evaluate the strength of the channel by conducting an SWOT analysis on the channel. Finally, the company can identify and build new customer channels.4. Customer RelationshipsAn organization must select the kind of relationship it will have with its customer segment in  order to create financial success and sustainability. Customer Relationships can be categorized as follows;Personal Assistance: In this kind of relationship the company interacts with the customer directly through an employee who provides the human touch by assisting the customer presale, during the sale and even may provide after sales services.Dedicated Personal Assistance: This kind of relationship is characterized by a very close interaction between the customer and the company through a dedicated representative who is assigned a set of clients and is personally responsible for the entir e experience the customer has with the company.Self-Service: Self-Service places the onus of the customer experience on the tools the company provides for the customer to serve him or herself.Automated Services: These are customized self-service relationships where the historical preference of the customer is taken into account to improve the overall experience.Communities: In today’s electronic age creating communities of clients allows organizations to communicate with them directly. This allows for an enhanced client experience because the community allows clients to share their experiences and come up with common challenges and solutions.Co-creation: The customer has a direct hand in the form the company’s product or service will take.For an entrepreneur, the priority is to identify the type of relationship he/ she has with the customer. Then the value of the customer must be evaluated in terms of the frequency of his expenditure on the firms product and services. Loyal cust omers are relationships that the company should aim to invest in as they will yield steady revenue throughout the year.5. Revenue StreamsA revenue stream is the methodology a company follows to get its customer segments to buy its product or service. A revenue stream can be created through the following ways;Asset Sale: the company sells the right of ownership over the good to the customer.Usage Fee: the company charges the customer for the use of its product or service.Subscription Fee: the company charges the customer for the regular and consistent use of its product or service.Lending/ Leasing/ Renting: the customer pays to get exclusive access to the product for a time-bound period.Licensing: the company charges for the use of its intellectual property.Brokerage Fees: companies or individuals that act as an intermediary between two parties charge a brokerage fee for their services.Advertising: a company charges for others to advertise their products using their mediums.When sett ing up revenue streams, it is important to recognize that an effective price for the product and/or service will be arrived at through the process of elimination. Different iterations of prices should be listed and evaluated. It is important, in the end to take a break ad reflect on possible avenues open to you as a business.6. Key ResourcesThese are the assets of the organization fundamental to how it provides value to its customers. Resources can be categorized as human, financial, physical and intellectual.For an entrepreneur, it is important to begin with listing your resources. This gives you a clear idea of what final product or service your company needs to create for the customer and which resources are dispensable, resulting in cost savings for your company. Once the final list of resources is available, the company can decide on how much it needs to invest in these key resources to operate a sustainable business.7. Key ActivitiesActivities that are key to producing the com pany’s value proposition. An entrepreneur must start by listing the key activities relevant to his/her business. These activities are the most important processes that need to occur for the business model to be effective. Key activities will coincide with revenue streams. Now it is important to evaluate which activities are key by adding or removing some and evaluating their impact.8. Key PartnershipsTo create efficient, streamlined operations and reduce risks associated with any business model, an organization forms partnerships with its high-quality suppliers. Key partnerships are the network of suppliers and partners who complement each other in helping the company create its value proposition. Partnerships can be categorized as follows;Strategic alliance between competitors (also known as coopetition),Joint ventures andRelationships between buyers and suppliers.An entrepreneur must begin by identifying its key partners followed by making future partnership plans. This can be d one through an evaluation of the partnership relationship to judge which characteristics of the relationship need improvement and what kind of future partnerships will be required.9. Cost StructureThis defines the cost of running a business according to a particular model. Businesses can either be cost driven i.e. focused on minimizing investment into the business or value driven i.e. focused on providing maximum value to the customer.Following are some traits of common cost structures;Fixed Costs: costs that remain the same over a period of timeVariable Costs: as the name suggests, these costs vary according to a variance in productionEconomies of Scale: costs decrease as production increasesEconomies of Scope: costs are decreased by investing in businesses related to the core product.The first step for an entrepreneur is to obviously identify all costs associated with the business. A realistic understanding of the costs of the business is one of the hallmarks of a good business mo del. After identification, it is important to list all the costs on the canvas, so they are visually present and then create plans for each cost. Some costs may be decreased through certain measures while others may go up if you decide that an investment in a particular section will result in future gains.WHY TO USE THE BUSINESS MODEL CANVASVisual Thinking: The tool allows for easy, visual representation for decision makers to ponder upon. How To Multiply Matrices Quickly and Correctly in Six Easy Steps

Step 0–Make Sure the product makes sense! Say we’re given two matrices A and B, where and we’ve been asked to find the product AB. To see if AB makes sense, write down the sizes of the matrices in the positions you want to multiply them. In this case, we write To check that the product makes sense, simply check if the two numbers on the inside agree. If they do, the product can be taken, if they don’t agree, the product doesn’t make sense. For instance, even though the product AB makes sense, the product BA does not. Indeed, the inside numbers of don’t match up. Step 1–If the product makes sense, find the dimensions of your answer Again, we can make use of the technique of writing down the dimensions in order. Let’s take the same A and B from above. We write down The outside numbers, in order, give the dimensions of the product. Reading the outside numbers left to right, we get 1 Ãâ€" 3, which is the dimension of or the product AB. We’ll compute this ourselves in a minute! To recap, †¢ Write down the dimensions of the two matrices A and B. †¢ Check if the inside numbers agree. †¢ If they agree, read the dimensions of the answer off the outside numbers Special Case – Multiplying a row vector by a matrix Step 2 –Write out the rows of the matrix on the right In our example, we would write Make sure you write them in the order they appeared! Step 3 – Multiplication Multiply the first row of B by the first entry of A, the second row by the second entry, and so on. which equals Step 4 – Addition Add up the rows you got in step 3 to get your answer General Case -- Two Matrices Now let's say we want to multiply a new matrix A' by the same matrix B, where Doing steps 0 and 1, we see the product makes sense and the output should be 3 X 3. We'll find the output row by row. Step 5 –Break both matrices into rows In our example, we would write Step 6 –Repeat Steps 1-4 for each row of A' To find the first row of our 3x3 answer, compute the product, the first row of A' times B. which is the problem we just solved. So, the first row of our answer is To find the second row of our 3x3 answer, compute, which I'll leave the reader to verify is Finally, the third row of our 3x3 answer is, so we multiply and then add We've found the three rows of our solution matrix and we conclude The common way of stating this perspective is that in the multiplication of AB, A acts on B by row operations. We view B as a collection of row vectors and the rows of A have us take linear combinations of the row vectors in B to form the rows of the solution. There is an equivalent perspective of column operations. Each has their place. Stay tuned for a follow-up post about how each of these perspectives comes into play when solving the matrix equation Ax = b. Are you interested in connecting with a mathematics tutor like Jesse? ;

When Should You Submit the FAFSA for College Aid

If youre applying to college in the United States, you should fill out the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. At nearly all schools, the FAFSA is the basis for need-based financial aid awards. The state and federal submission dates for the FAFSA changed significantly in 2016. You can now apply in October rather than waiting until January. When and How to Fill Out the FAFSA The federal deadline for the FAFSA is June 30th, but you should apply much earlier than that. In order to receive the highest amount of aid, you should submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible as of October 1st of the year before you will be attending college. This is because most colleges award some kinds of aid on a first-come, first-served basis. Colleges can and will check to see when you submitted your FAFSA and will award aid accordingly. In the past, many college applicants put off filling out the FAFSA until their families had completed their taxes since the form asks for tax information. However, this is not necessary because of the changes made to the FAFSA in 2016. You can now use your prior-prior year tax return when filling out the FAFSA. For example, if youre planning to enter college in the fall of 2018, you can fill out your FAFSA beginning October 1st of 2017 using your 2016 tax return. Before you sit down to fill out the application, make sure you have gathered all the documents youll need to answer all the FAFSA questions. This will make the process much more efficient and less frustrating. It is important to note that colleges that offer institutional aid often will require you to submit different forms in addition to the FAFSA. Be sure to check with your schools financial aid office to know exactly what kinds of aid are available and what you can do to receive them. If you receive any information requests from your college related to financial aid, make sure you respond as quickly as possible. This will help ensure that you get the maximum amount of financial aid and that you get it on time. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your schools financial aid office. NOTE: When submitting the FAFSA, make sure you are submitting it for the right year. All too often, parents or students will run into problems after accidentally sending in the FAFSA for the wrong school year. Get started with your application at the FAFSA website. State Deadlines for the FAFSA Although the federal deadline for filing the FAFSA is June 30th, state deadlines are often much earlier than end of June, and students who put off filing the FAFSA may find that they are ineligible for many types of financial aid. The table below provides a sample of some state deadlines, but be sure to check with the FAFSA website to make sure you have the most up-to-date information. Sample FAFSA Deadlines State Deadlines Alaska Alaska Education Grants are awarded soon after October 1st. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Arkansas Academic Challenge and Higher Education Opportunity Grants have a June 1st deadline. California Many state programs have a March 2nd deadline. Connecticut For priority consideration, submit the FAFSA by February 15th. Delaware April 15th Florida May 15th Idaho March 1st deadline for the state's Opportunity Grant Illinois Submit the FAFSA as soon after October 1st as possible. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Indiana March 10th Kentucky As soon after October 1st as possible. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Maine May 1st Massachusetts May 1st Missouri February 1st for priority consideration. Applications accepted through April 2nd. North Carolina As soon after October 1st as possible. Awards are made until funds are depleted. South Carolina As soon after October 1st as possible. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Washington State As soon after October 1st as possible. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Other Sources for Financial Aid The FAFSA is essential for nearly all state, federal, and institutional financial aid awards. Keep in mind, however, that there are millions of dollars of college scholarship funds out there awarded by private organizations. Cappex is a reputable free service where you can get personalized scholarship matches from over $11 billion in awards. You can also browse through the many scholarship  here on ThoughtCo.

The Catcher in the Rye is about a teenage boy named Holden...

The Catcher in the Rye is about a teenage boy named Holden Caulfield who doesn’t exactly fit in with his society. We know he doesn’t fit it because in the first scene Holden decides not to attend his school’s football game, which most people attend. Holden is a very opinionated person who criticizes most things. Hold did not belong in the 1940’s idea of a perfect society. But, would Holden Caulfield fit in to today’s society? Holden Caulfield would be more critical of today’s society. Holden would have many more prejudices today, but would still be accepted into today’s society because of a diversified society from the 1950’s to the 2010’s. Holden has many criticisms, about everything. The internet provides a place, such as blogs and websites, to express how they feel. Holden would not have been alone, if he was alive today. Holden would be more accepting living in the current generation. He would be more critical of modern society. When asked to name one thing he likes by Phoebe, he can not think of anything. Holden Caulfield likes to have prejudices against people. So even if they criticisms he made in 1946 were not relevant today, he would find more problems to address. However, many of the opinions he held would be seen in today’s society, so Holden would be critical of his 1946 views and today’s 2014 views. Today, there are many ways for your voice to be heard. Holden, with access to these resources, would not have been alone and seemed so disturbed by society. He would be able to connect with others who felt the same way he did about certain topics. With this group of criticizers, Holden might be able to feel included in a group and not feel so distant from society. Holden Caulfield is definitely and alienated teenager. This alienation harms and protects Holden. By being alienated fro m society, he does not have to connect with people and therefore, people can not reject him. The hunting cap he wears is a sign of the separation and independence Holden desires. This is a symbol

Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe s Influence On American...

When thinking of American literature, it’s difficult to pinpoint an author who absolutely hits the nail on the head about what exactly defines American literature and what it means. The definition is also liable to change depending on the person’s depiction of each story that is written. You simply cannot wrap it up into one sentence and call it a concrete definition; there is too much diversity and complexity within its significance. There are also numerous centuries with different eras that all have vast connections along with their differences that must be considered when interrupting how American literature has evolved. One can define it is the literature that is written or produced in the area of the United States (Giles), which is an exceedingly generic explanation and open for many categories. There are many influential American literature authors who have shared trying stories about how our country has evolved. However, no one writer can transcend all genres or eras, but one that comes to mind for his extraordinary impact on American literature is Edgar Allen Poe. His work is unique and diverse, as well as continued to be effective and successful, which is the perfect example of American literature. Poe introduced several changes to the literary style of his time period. He was one of the first writers to develop the genre of both detective fiction and horror. Amtrack Case Study Free Essays

In the given Amtrack case study provided, which involved a train in an accident that caused forty seven deaths can   be perceived as an ethical issue that is based on whom to blame on some situation which arise and uncertain. The ethical issue lie on who to blame among the main stakeholders, where the main stakeholders in this situation include the engineers, the national transportation safety board, conductor and assistant conductor CSX Transportation Inc and also WGN company. The main decision makers in the case include the media, the United States government and also the National Transportation Safety Board. We will write a custom essay sample on Amtrack Case Study or any similar topic only for you Order Now The Amrack company had a cooperate social responsibility of ensuring that it promoted the social welfare of the community in which its operated a part from the benefits that it got from its operations. The company had a cooperate responsibility of following the legal procedures which are set by the relevant authorities in ensuring improved social welfare of the community (Loudon, 1986). For example the company was expected to adhere to the measures which were set by National Transportation Safety Board in improving the passengers safety when on board, but the company otherwise decided not to follow the rules by not   equipping the train with the sensor which was meant to detect the bridge damages. The company may have also perceived the equipping of the train with the sensor as a cost which was meant to make them loose economically, therefore decided to do without the device at the expense of endangering the passengers lives. The company also has a cooperate social responsibility in protecting the human lives on board, which it traded by not fixing the sensor to the train implying that they valued money more than human lives. Philanthropy is another social cooperate responsibility that involves the donating an aid to a charitable cause in improving the welfare of the community that a company is operating in, and this should depend on the wealth level of the donating company. Law provides a basis for an ethical decision on the legal, economic, ethical and philanthropic issues of cooperate social responsibility. Law provide that the companies should adhere to the set standards of operating which are intended to improve the welfare of the community and this include the rules for the protection of humanity and the environment. The companies are expected to observe some safety measure during their operation to ensure that the participates in their operation, both the workers and the users of their products are safe. The law also provide that companies are expected to instill the safety measures despite the cost of implementing the safety measures. Companies are likely to avoid taking some safety measures because of the costs involved in the implementation, therefore law is meant to ensure that the safety measures are in place. Companies are certain to value profits more than the human lives therefore posing an ethical problem (Bentham, 2007). Law is needed in protecting humanity because it will ensure that companies are protecting humanity despite their much interest in profit maximization. Most cooperation are profit maximizing and for that reason they do not like spending in charitable activities toward the improvement of the community welfare as a cooperate social responsibility, otherwise they perceive the donations as a waste of resources. This situation call for the act of law to ensure that the companies provide for charitable activities aimed at improving the welfare of the community in which they operate in so as so make their operations reflective of the society in which they operate in (Hess and Bales, 2007). Law is therefore meant to make them contribute to charitable activities in proportion to the companies’ wealth, hence the promotion of philanthropy. Conclusion and Recommendations. From the Amtrack case study, the main ethical issue is the conflicting interests in society which gave an opportunity for the occurrence of the accident. The Amtrack company is concern with lowering its operating costs at the expense of human safety who use the company train. The National transport safety board is also concerned with the safety of the passengers. Due to the conflicting interests in the society as portrayed in the case, there occurs the need for having set rules which are meant to cater for the interests of all persons in society. The rules which are part of the country of the country’s law should be set in a manner in which all the parties’ interest are considered and judgement made on   the basis of mutual benefits. The positive implication of the recommendation is that order will be restored in society as everybody will be expected to behave in a manner in which is expected to promote the general good of everybody. The negative implication of the recommendation is that some entities in societies will feel restrained in achieved their interest at the expense of the other entities’ welfare. The possible criticism over the recommendation is that, it is difficult to exactly draws a balance over interests because the interest of individuals’ are varied thus a unattainable. The best possible way to address the criticism is to make a judgement based on the premise that one is expected to behave in manner in which he   or she   may expect to be treated when in a situation like that of his or her neighbor in promoting the general happiness. Social justice is a topic known all to well in todays society Essay Example For Students

Social justice is a topic known all to well in todays society Essay Social justice is a topic known all to well in todays society. Such issues as social heirarchial structure and unjust representatives of citizens of nations are issues in need of attention by those in power. Corruption, lies and greed by those in power however stand in the way of this form of justice from occurring, leaving many with little or no social status open to prejudice on race, religious and sexual grounds. Outlined by William Shakespeare in Measure for Measure and George Orwell in Animal Farm is the ease in which power can corrupt. A utopian society is created once a farmer is overthrown from his position in charge of all the animals on Manor Farm. A set of rules to govern the citizens of the revolutionary society was decided upon and these were to be the fairest and least controversial rules for the citizens of Animal Farm to abide by: The Commandments were written on the tarred wall in great white letters that could be read thirty yards away. They ran thus: THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy 2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a freind 3. No animal shall wear clothes 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed 5. No animal shall drink alcohol 6. No animal shall kill any other animal 7. All animals are equal. It was very neatly written, and except that friend was written freind and one of the Ss was the wrong way round, the spelling was correct all the way through. Snowball read it aloud for the benefit of the others. All the animals nodded in complete agreement, and the cleverer ones at once began to learn the Commandments by heart. As months passed on Animal Farm, the pigs, who thought they were the dominant force in the running of the animal farm, became more and more in control. Animal Farm, had now become the fairest it would ever be. Word of what had happened to Manor Farm had spread across all of Ireland and England. Animals all over the country were following in their paths led by pigs Napoleon and Snowball. However, as this was happening, Animal Farm was heading to ruin as the pigs became selfish and ignorant. They would now consider themselves above the laws and commandments they had set, as they believed they had set the way for the new society. To a greater extent, leaders Snowball and Napoleon would control and decide the fate of the farm, setting rations, In January food fell short. The corn ration was drastically reduced, deciding hours on the Mill, and even who would live to see another day, as we saw in Chapter 7 when Snowball had been declared a traitor: The three hens who had been the ringleaders in the attempted rebellion over the eggs now came forward and stated that Snowball had appeared to them in a dream and incited them to disobey Napoleons orders. They, too, were slaughtered. Then a goose came forward and confessed to having secreted six ears of corn during the last years harvest and eaten them in the night. Then a sheep confessed to having urinated in the drinking poolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ urged to do this, so she said, by Snowballà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ and two other sheep confessed to having murdered an old ram, an especially devoted follower of Napoleon, by chasing him round and round a bonfire when he was suffering from a cough. They were all slain on the spot. And so the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleons feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown there since the expulsion of Jones. The farm which had once been the source of inspiration with a democratic society was now a farm of death, destruction and communism. This is the impact of social injustice on what was once a just community in a revolutionary society. When power corrupts as happened in Orwells Animal Farm, there is no telling where it will end or what damage will be caused. Such social injustice also occurred in William Shakespeares M easure for Measure, wherein a leader corrupted the legal system for his own benefit. .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .postImageUrl , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:hover , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:visited , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:active { border:0!important; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:active , .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4238a70f12b94b13edb6d943a932dc0d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Intersectionality : A Sociological And Critical TheoryVienna is being lead by Angelo, a name reflecting bad angel, and the city has been outraged due to his corrupt ways. The play is based around the court case of Claudio and the injustice delivered to him by the corrupt leader for a crime that some would consider being trivial. Claudio had made love to his fiancÃÆ' ©e prior to their marriage. At this time in Vienna, this was a crime punishable by death and Angelo was quick to pounce on this fact, sending Claudio to gaol and sentencing him to death. In studies of justice we have learnt that justice depends on the situation and this seems grossly unjust for a couple planning to be wed. After Claudio is sentenced to death, Shakespeare creates an interesting turn of events showing just how corrupt leadership can be. Once Claudios sister, Isabella, a novice nun approaches Angelo to dispute his decision and begs for mercy, he tells her that in order to save her brother, she will have to give up her virginity to him: Angelo: Admit no other way to save his life- As I subscribe not that, nor any other, But in the loss of question- that you, his sister, Finding yourself desired of such a person, Whose credit with the judge, or own great place, Could fetch your brother from the manacles Of the all-binding law, and that there were No earthly mean to save him, but that either You must lay down the treasures of your body To this supposed, or else to let him suffer: What would you do? Isabella: As much for my brother as myself: That is, were I under the terms of death, Thimpression of keen whips Id wear as rubies, And strip myself to death as to a bed That longing have been sick for, ere Id yield My body up to shame. Angelo: Then your brother must die. Isabella: And twere the cheaper way: Better it were a brother died at once, Than a sister by redeeming him Should die forever. This passage shows that the question of Angelo is not whether he is corrupt or not, but how corrupt he is. His hypocritical ways were characteristic of the leader in action. On one hand he was condemning Angelo and Juliet for their sin but on the other was encouraging the exact same sin with Isabella, the signs of true hypocrisy. As we can see in Shakespeares Measure for Measure, those in leadership roles often let their responsibilities fall short and the power they obtain influences their duties to their underlying citizens negatively and due to this an injustice may occur. Ones mind may be distorted and filled with negative opinions when young by those we respect. Racism, prejudice against those of different religions or against those of a different sex, are just a few examples of ideas that are drilled into a young persons mind by those influencing the youth, especially by ones parents. In the film American History X, the ease in which a youths mind can be directed is only too present. A respectable young man going by the name of Derek is a teen who holds no racist opinions until after admiring his class teachers Dr. Bob Sweeney work on black issues and works. His father bluntly tells Derek not to have any respect for those who are not white people of the Protestant faith, sparking the beginning of a racist developmen- producing a man who would kill a black man just for the sake of it. This is made clear when his father is murdered, but nobody knows by who and Derek boldly accuses every black man of being a suspect on national television: Every problem is race related. Immigration, aids. . Not only was Derek now a racist, but his little brother, Danny would blindly follow in his brothers footsteps. .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .postImageUrl , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:hover , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:visited , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:active { border:0!important; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:active , .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687 .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2e17cb7c26c0568e5d793fec3bb1c687:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Rock ; pop EssayLooking up to Derek as a fatherly figure, Danny believes if Derek says it then it must be true. The Neo-Nazi movement expresses hatred for many cultures and believe in the Ku Klux Klan catch cry of white power. Derek is sent to gaol after murdering two black men outside his house who are trying to steal his car. He learnt valuable lessons while carrying out his sentence because he was outnumbered by black men and the white men turned on him. Yeah, I know your kind. Bad ass pecker wood with an attitude. Let me tell you something, you better watch your ass, cause in this joint, youre the nigga, not me. However, while Derek had learnt these lessons, Danny had not. After writing a school report on Hitlers Mein Kampf he is placed in a class by himself with Dr. Bob Sweeney and is told to research his older brother on the very day he is released from prison. It is an assignment designed to open Dannys eyes. Danny then finds out about his brothers time in the prison system and Danny still respects Derek as a fatherly figure. He is told of the struggles his brother went through, how he was able to break the shackles of racism through the help of Dr. Sweeney and once again Danny follows in Dereks footsteps and breaks free from the Skinhead Tribe, the nickname for the Neo-Nazi group founded by Derek. On the morning Danny is to hand in his essay on his older brother to Dr. Sweeney after shedding his racist opinions, he is shot in the toilets by a black boy who he had previously aggravated and who was the brother of one of the black men that Derek had murdered. Injustice is a strong word and in all three cases I have portrayed here all contain some sort of injustice. Whether it be Animal Farm and their corrupt society run by the communist pigs, Measure for Measure and the hypocritical leader or American History X and the Neo-Nazi society that one was able to associate themselves with, all these are able to relate back to each other in that there was an injustice caused by one to disadvantage the rest of their society.

The Similarities of Alfred Hitchcock and Edward Hopper Essay Paper Alfred Hitchcock. besides known as. â€Å"The Maestro of Suspense† . was a manager to a assortment of award winning movies. Many Hitchcock films will be perceptibly inspired by legion pictures. including the work of iconic creative person Edward Hopper. Hopper. born in New York. was good known for his realist pictures. Comparing the pictures and movies. one will see the similarities displayed between the two. Alfred Hitchcock and Edward Hopper are linked by making an eerie temper through their usage of illuming. composing. and point of view. Both Hitchcock and Hopper tend to utilize dark illuming with shadows every bit good as insulating a little group of people seen from an ‘outside looking in’ point of position. Edward Hopper is able to capture suspense in his pictures and he does this through his usage of illuming. He casts shadows and darkness in peculiar pictures in order to convey the temper he wishes to accomplish. In his most celebrated picture. â€Å"Nighthawks† . Hopper uses shadows as a technique to make a unusual feeling for the scene. The lone visible radiation in the picture appears to be coming from the diner itself. Because it is dark. there is something eerie about why these people are up so tardily at dark. Similar to Hopper. Hitchcock uses cryptic shadows to make this peculiar temper. This is seen through a still image of his film â€Å"Rear Window† . During this scene. the chief character Jeff. who is a wheel chair bound photojournalist. is confronted by Lars Thorwald. a going jewellery salesman who Jeff believes murdered person. Lars shows up in Jeff’s flat and the lighting dramatis personae upon him is dark. His figure is clearly at that place but the shadows cover his face wholly. which helps to demo this cryptic. eerie temper. Unlike Hopper. Hitchcock has an advantage of puting sound into the scene which adds to the ambiance of uncertainness. If it had been twenty-four hours clip or igniter in the room. the scene would non hold portrayed the same temper. This first-class usage of shadows by both Hopper and Hitchcock create the ghostliness they are both good known for. Alfred Hitchcock tended to concentrate on a little group of chief characters in each scene to make suspense. This was seen in his film â€Å"Vertigo† . The chief character. Scottie. is a retired investigator and was hired by Gavin Elster to follow his married woman. Madeline Elster. As the secret plan thickens. Madeline purportedly jumps off the roof of the church and kills herself. Scottie meets a new adult female. Judy Barton. who has an eldritch resemblance to Madeline. The scene in the still image is when Scottie is recognizing that Judy pretended to be Madeline so Gavin could slay his married woman and people would merely presume she was brainsick. As Scottie realizes this. the camera position is focused on merely him. By insulating him entirely. Hitchcock has enabled the audience to calculate the secret plan out aboard Scottie. This flooring disclosure creates an eerie feeling and gets the intended temper across. Like Hitchcock. Hopper tends to utilize the technique of insulating his characters. In the picture â€Å"Automat† . there is a adult female sitting by herself in a diner. Although non given off of the first feeling. the picture can give off an eerie temper. For illustration. her facial look is clean and she is submerging in the darkness from the back land. The image presents a dead silence which helps show the intended temper. Hopper had a inclination to paint his pictures as an foreigner position to construct a sense of inscrutability. In his picture â€Å"Nighthawk† . Hopper illustrates four people on the interior of a coffeehouse. The spectator is able to see all of the people in the scene because of the point of position. The adult male on the far left has his dorsum turned so one can non construe his temper ; although his caput is down which makes the spectator infer he is believing. The miss and male child sitting following to each other may be a twosome. but the spectator can non cognize for certain. The waiter may hold a drink in his manus or it could be something more leery. but because the spectator can non see his custodies they can non be certain of what the object is. By being able to see everyone in the picture and being able to analyse each character. the temper conveys eeriness because the spectator has unanswered inquiries and enigma. Hitchcock besides uses an ‘outside looking in’ point of position in the film â€Å"Rear Window† . The secret plan of the film is based around the chief character watching people through his flat window. In the still image. Jeff. the chief character. tickers as his neighbour goes in and out of his flat and so takes knifes out of his bag. If the spectator was in the room with the neighbour. they would be able to state what was traveling on. By being on the exterior. it leaves the spectator thinking which so creates a cliff-hanging. eerie temper. Edward Hopper and Alfred Hitchcock are un-doubtfully similar when it comes to inside informations. Hitchcock may non be a painter. but his work has been influenced by pictures. The comparing between both of Hitchcock and Hopper’s work shows that art has an influence throughout all the different types there are. The two creative persons create different chef-doeuvres. but the similarities between the two aid separate the eerie temper.
